What Is Involved in Fitting a Dishwasher?
The water supply to a dishwasher is typically taken from the cold water supply under the sink using a 15mm service valve and flexible hose. Some older kitchens have both hot and cold connections (older machines could use either), but all modern dishwashers heat their own water and require only a cold supply. The supply pressure must be within the manufacturer's specified range — too high and the machine's inlet valve can fail prematurely; too low and the machine will not fill correctly. We check and, if necessary, fit a pressure-reducing valve as part of the installation.
The waste connection is equally important. The dishwasher waste hose must be elevated to a high point (usually at worktop level) before descending to the waste connection — this high loop prevents waste water from flowing back into the machine. The connection point is typically a spigot on the sink waste trap, or a dedicated standpipe. We ensure the connection is secure, correctly elevated, and free from kinks that could restrict drainage and cause the machine to report fault codes.
